This evaluation is about a system that is visualizing recommendations in the area of cultural heritage.

The idea behind it is the following: You are doing research on a specific topic and you are currently looking at a Wikipedia article. Our recommendation system is analysing the page you are viewing, and is suggesting more documents that may fit to your topic of interest.

The recommendations are shown as a list of items (e.g. documents or images). The so called "Recommendation Dashboard" (RD) displays these recommendations in a suitable visual form, that helps the user to explore, filter and organize them.

This evaluation is focused on the Recommendation Dashboard, and therefore you will start directly with a fixed set of recommendations shown in the RD.

Please have a look at this short introduction into the RD. After you have finished it, close the newly opened window, and click on next in this survey:

To finish the introduction into the recommendation dashboard, we would like to ask you, to use it for a while. Take a quick look at every main visualisation, and use the selection mechanism at every one of them .

 

Open Recommendation Dasboard

Scenario: You are a researcher interested in topic Historic Buildings and you are reading a Wikipedia article. The EEXCESS Browser Extension automatically retrieved 68 recommendations. You are using the Recommendation Dashboard to view and analyze them.

As the number of results is high and not all of them are relevant, you use the visualization and filtering capabilities of the RD to select only those which are interesting to you.

When done, you store the results for further/later use.

Tasks:

• You are interested in:
  • recent documents (e.g. several last decades)
  • referencing  some area on the map, with two ore more languages
  • and in two different languages, you prefer

          Note: you can choose the exact criteria freely

• Use the visualizations to select the recommendations and use the “ Lock ” button to set the corresponding filter.

Same as task 1, but different data, and please choose different filters

 

Scenario: You are a researcher interested in topic University campus and you are reading a Wikipedia article. The EEXCESS Browser Extension automatically retrieved 51 recommendations. You are using the Recommendation Dashboard to view and analyze them.

As the number of results is high and not all of them are relevant, you use the visualization and filtering capabilities of the RD to select only those which are interesting to you.

When done, you store the results for further/later use.
